The Matte Lipstick I’ve Been Searching For

Just like most people these days, I LOVE a matte lipstick. I swear this hype has only been around for a few years now but I can’t remember a time that I wasn’t wearing a matte lip!? I’ve tried so many different brands, types and colours but I’ve finally found my absolute favourite matte lip product: Rimmel’s Stay Matte Liquid Lipstick!

If you remember, when these were released a while ago, there was an advert featuring Rita Ora that was promoting them everywhere – I swear it was played before every YouTube video for a while! When I saw it, I really wanted to get my hands on these but just forgot every time I went into Boots or Superdrug.

Not too long ago, I was browsing the make up counters, saw these and remembered how much I had wanted them. I picked up one, came back a few days later for another and now I have four different shades!

I thought I would show you the shades I have and what they look like on me. These colours would definitely look different on different people but in my opinion, they’re such staple shades for any makeup collection. I have a few more that I have my eye on which I’m sure I’ll get my hands on after pay day!

This was the first one I picked up. I love a good nude, especially this shade – I actually have about three other products that are quiiite similar! However, this is the one I reach for the most. I find that this goes with pretty much every makeup look I wear and is perfect for everyday. It’s definitely more pink-toned, but not too pink!

Pink Blink

This one is sort of similar to Be My Baby but is definitely pink rather than just hinting at a blush colour. I wasn’t sure if I could pull off pink lipstick – I’m definitely either a subtle nude or bright and obviously-bold lipped gal – but I thought I would give this a try as it isn’t too much of an ‘in-your-face’ pink. It’s definitely more subtle and I wear it quite a lot now!

Fire Starter

This is the only red in the collection and it’s definitely a true red. It comes out quite bright which makes the application tricky because the smallest smudge is so obvious – I spend ages trying to perfect it. However, I would say it’s my perfect red. Most of my red lipsticks aren’t matte or are pretty drying on the lips but this one ticks all the boxes for me.

Plum This Show

This is my newest addition and I haven’t had a chance to wear it out yet but I absolutely love it! I feel like it’s more of an autumnal shade so I’m tempted to stash it away and bring it out to get the autumn vibes later in the year but I might be able to wear it on a night out in the summer or if I’m feeling brave one day! With lip products this colour, I usually find that they’re a bit difficult and if you put on multiple layers, you get quite an uneven look but from what I found when I tested it, this one doesn’t seem to do that which is fab!

Be My Baby

The colours in this range are amazing. There’s such a huge range – you can even get blue or black if you want – and I feel like there’s something there for everybody. Out of all the matte lipsticks I’ve tried, these are the best colour-wise as it doesn’t take much product to get the proper colour and they don’t seem to fade during the day either.

Leading on from this, their staying power is pretty good. I know if I eat carefully, there isn’t any change in how it looks on my lips, but, I don’t tend to like paying attention to how I eat so when I just eat normally, they do fade a little but there’s always enough colour left to be passable for the rest of the day! I would say, the darker shades, especially the red, would probably need topping up after eating but other than that, they all last for ages!

One of the most important things about lip products for me is the application; if it’s fiddly or the applicator is too big and you have to spend ages tidying it up, its a bit of a deal breaker as to whether or not I’ll use the product again. These ones have the perfect applicator for me! It’s such a good size and covers my whole lip with one swipe. The end is also slightly pointed which makes it great for doing the top lip and navigating the cupid’s bow!

The main problem with matte lip products is usually whether or not they dry your lips out. I find that these can be a bit drying the longer you wear them but I usually only notice it right at the end of the day before I’m about to take it off. And this is mainly because it’s been on all day and I can’t wait to get all my makeup off! Having said that, when I do take it off, I find no evidence of them actually making my lips dry which is exactly what I’m looking for – I’ve found a liquid matte product that doesn’t make my lips as dry as a desert!

So, if you’ve managed to get through all my ramblings about the Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Lipsticks, well done, I didn’t know I had so much to say about them! I just have to add, they are my absolute favourite matte lip products – or maybe even just lip products full stop! If you haven’t tried them, I would 100% give them a go. They’re so affordable (I paid £5.99) and I’m sure you’ll be able to find a colour you fancy!

What’s your favourite lip product? Have you tried these ones?

I’ve been searching for another matte lipstick for so long but so far haven’t had any luck! I only have a red matte one and I can’t really wear red every single day hahaha. I love the shades you chose, Be My Baby & Pink Blink look like perfect every day ones! Yay, so happy to know they last a long time – just need a bit of touching up after eating but other than that green light for long day wear! My favorite lip product is my Stunna Lip Paint from Fenty Beauty 🙂

I’m so glad you love these they’re my second favourite drugstore liquid lipstick formula (Maybelline Superstay Matte Ink comes first) I have Be My Baby and Plum This Show but I never go for a bold lip anymore I don’t think I can pull them off so I don’t get much wear out of the plum one but my favourite shade is Fatal Kiss! Will also be on the look out for Pink Blink, thanks for sharing!
