About a month or so ago, I did a round up of all the beauty bits I’d recently purchased. Since then, I thought I’d better turn my mind to skincare – if I’m going to start painting my face with all manner of new products, I need some new cleansers and face masks to keep my skin in good condition.
I’ve been considering a few different products for quite a while now. I’ve always wanted to try some Mario Badescu pieces as I’ve heard such good things but I never branched away from my staples. I also wanted a few other specific products to combat some issues I’ve been having with my skin.
I used to have quite oily skin but as I’ve gotten older, its changed into more combination. I also never used to get many spots, but at around Christmas time, I started to get quite a lot of spots around my chin and the bottom of my cheeks, more than I ever got as a teenager, and I have to admit, I really struggled with it for a few months. Luckily they’ve settled down now and I only get the odd one here and there but I’m left with some deep, red scars – that’ll teach me for not just leaving them alone!
So, I decided to properly research skincare and the specific things I needed so I could put in an order for a few different products. I think I’ve got a bit of an idea of what I need now, and I’ve formulated some kind of skincare routine that I hope I’ll stick to! So, if you’re looking for some new products, or just interested in what someone else uses, all the bits I got are below!
I really wanted to try some Mario Badescu bits and they had some good offers on their collections. I picked up two different ones and because I spent over a certain amount, I got some freebies too! You might notice that I’ve actually got the same product three times, just in three different sizes! That was completely unintentional but thankfully I like the product – now I’ve got one for home, one for my handbag and one for travelling!
Mario Badescu The Essentials Kit
Containing Enzyme Cleansing Gel, Aloe, Herbs and Rosewater Facial Spray, Drying Lotion, Silver Powder and Flower and Tonic Mask.
I mainly ordered this collection for the Drying Lotion. I’d heard such good things about it and really wanted to try it. This collection was only around £10 more than the drying lotion alone at £24 and it contained four more products so I thought it was a great deal. A friend recommended the Silver Powder too and I think that’ll be great for dealing with pesky blackheads! I’m yet to try the mask but I’m saving that for a pamper night, and I already love the cleansers and the facial spray!
Mario Badescu The Mini Mist Collection
Containing four facial sprays; Aloe, Herbs and Rosewater; Aloe, Chamomile and Lavender; Aloe, Sage and Orange Blossom; Aloe, Cucumber and Green Tea.
I was looking into all the different facial sprays available and wasn’t sure which I’d like the most. This mini mist set had been reduced down to £12 so I thought it was a great chance to try them all and pick a favourite. The Aloe, Chamomile and Lavender is my current favourite for a little extra moisturising spritz before bed!
Mario Badescu Freebies
Containing Glycolic Foaming Cleanser, Rose Hips Mask, Aloe, Herbs and Rosewater Facial Spray and Green Mario Badescu Toiletries Bag.
I’m actually really impressed with the freebies I received! I absolutely love the bag – its such a good size and in my favourite colour – and I think they’re good sized products considering they were free. I really like the Glycolic Foaming Cleanser and I’m considering buying the full size version once my mini one runs out.
After I added the Mario Badescu products to my basket, I also wanted to try out a few different bits from other companies. I really wanted to try a serum. I do already have one but it’s designed to target acne prone skin and I wanted one more for skin brightening. I also wanted to try something to combat my spot scars so I could see if they would fade a little bit.
The Ordinary Azelaic Acid Suspension 10% 30ml
I did a bit of research on products that are good for reducing the visibility of acne scars and this one was suggested quite a bit. I’ve always wanted to try some bits from The Ordinary but wasn’t confident with knowing which acids were best for my skin. However, I eased into using this one and I’m liking it so far. I’ve only been applying it to the problem areas and I’ve noticed a little bit of reduction in red marks but I think I need to use it for much longer before making a proper judgement. I hope I do like it as the price is amazing!
Beauty Bay SkinHit Brightening Serum 50ml
I really wanted to try a Vitamin C or Peptide serum for brightening. I didn’t want to spend too much as serums can get pretty expensive and I saw this one for £6.50! It contains the ingredients I was looking and is so affordable. I’ve used it a few times in the morning after cleansing before doing my make-up and I did feel like I had a bit more of a glow. I’m going to keep using it and see if I see a difference in my skin.
I feel like that’s probably the biggest skincare haul I’ve ever done – I usually just buy one thing here or there, or just replace my cleanser; I actually used the same cleanser for about 7 years, just buying the same one over and over again. I dread to think how much money I spent on Neutrogena’s Pink Grapefruit face wash over the years! I’m looking forward to trying some new things and figuring out what works best for my skin.
What have you been using recently? Do you have any recommendations for me?
