I’ve recently posted a sum up of my First Year of Uni which has got me thinking about my second year and what I’d like to achieve.
My first year was pretty good. I made some great friends, somehow managed to pass with a First and made some really good memories. However, there are a few things I want to do in my second year to make it even better than the first.
So, here is a list of my goals for my second year of uni!
I did work hard last year but I know that if I try, I can work even harder. I know that second year is supposed to get more difficult so I’m going to say that I’m aiming to get at least one first but I’d be more than happy with a 2:1. I really want to put everything into it so I know I’m getting everything out of it that I possibly can.
Find a part-time job.
This is something I didn’t do in first year that I wish I had. After working for all of this summer, I thought I wouldn’t want to work once I returned to uni but I’ve actually enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would so I’d really like to continue working in second year. As I’m writing this, I’ve already applied for 3 jobs and I’m looking for more!
I did volunteer a little bit in my first year (monitoring a specialist library) but I didn’t really feel like it was the best type of volunteering I could do. I’d much prefer to volunteer with the elderly or with animals which I’ve looked into and will hopefully make an effort to do this year.
Go to the gym.
Last year, I couldn’t afford a gym membership but luckily I can this year and it’s something I’d really like to do. If you follow me on Twitter (@alexdaydreaming if you’re interested!) or read my body confidence post, you’ll know that it’s something I’m enjoying this summer and I really want to make it a regular thing at uni.
Last year, I played Netball every Friday but at Christmas, I stopped. I said it was because I didn’t think I was fit enough, which was partly true, but I also decided I couldn’t be bothered anymore. Now that I’m (hopefully) a bit fitter, I want to get back into it as I really enjoy it. Also, it’s a great way to meet people and I’d love to meet some new people in second year.
I actually did join a few societies during Freshers’ Week but I was too nervous to go to any of the meetings alone. My first year definitely built my confidence up, so much so that I feel that I could participate in societies this year. The main one is the Feminist Society as I was so excited to join this but was too shy to go! I’ll make it my mission to go to at least one meeting this year!
More social activities.
By this, I mean outside of uni. I did go ‘out-out’ a fair amount last year and we did a few things here and there – went out for dessert, Bonfire Night, shopping – but I’d really love to utilise the city more. There’s so much history there and so many things to do that I felt I missed out on last year. We already have an escape room experience planned!
Work hard on my blog.
I’ve had my blog for about two months now and I’m enjoying it so much that I want to continue to work on it whilst I’m at uni. I know that it may get pushed to the background with everything else I want to do but I’m going to try to make a conscious effort to keep it going. I’ll need to work on my time management which brings me on to my next point.
Improve time management.
I’m naturally an organised person but I’m the worst for procrastinating. My Grandad told me that procrastination is the thief of time and this is what I want to stop happening! As I have so much planned for next year, I’m going to need to be on point with my planning and managing my time!
That concludes my list of goals for second year! I’m thinking of doing an updated post around Christmas time to see how this is all going. I’m really excited for the year to come and I’m hoping that I can achieve all of this.
I hope you enjoyed this post! If you have any uni goals – or goals in general – feel free to leave a link to them in the comments. I’d love to read them!
