Birthday Haul and First Impressions

Hi!

I turned 19 on August 1st and I thought that today, I would do a birthday haul!

I wasn’t sure whether to do this post or not but I ran a poll on Twitter asking if anyone would like to read it and the results came through as mostly yes. I do still feel like I need to add a little disclaimer. Everything featured in this post was either bought with my own money or with money I was given for my birthday as opposed to a present. Also, these are mostly things that I wouldn’t really buy for myself on a regular basis and had been wanting for a while but decided to wait until my birthday. So, I’m not bragging or showing off, I just thought I’d share this with you!

Now that’s done with, here’s what I got!

Tommy Hilfiger ‘Tommy Girl’ Perfume
A couple of my friends have this perfume and every time they wear it I love the smell! My boyfriend actually bought this for my birthday and it’s replaced one of my Jack Wills perfumes as more of an everyday scent. It’s quite strong so you don’t need much of it and it’s really inexpensive for a good perfume!

Clothes
I didn’t get too many clothes as I’ve found the shops are sort of in-between summer and autumn and everything’s a bit random. However, I did buy the bardot striped and floral top you can see in the picture above which I love! I also bought another bardot gingham top which you can see me wearing here and a lovely floral and geometric tea dress that I wore to Cambridge and you can see here

Silver Converse
I absolutely love Converse and after having the standard white and black pairs (which I wear ALL the time), I wanted to try something different and loved the silver ones. The side is actually slightly different which I really like and you can find them here. I wore them for the first time in Cambridge and they absolutely killed my feet! I need to wear them in a bit more but they’re definitely getting better. I thought they’d be hard to style but they actually go with everything!

Benefit Precisely My Brow Pencil
I mentioned in my Beauty Wishlist post that I was on the hunt for a new eyebrow product. I was going to try the ABH Brow Pomade but I didn’t want to order it online in case the colour didn’t match and I wasted my money. So instead, as I love the Benefit Ready Set Brow, I thought I would try a Benefit product. I’m really enjoying using this. I think the colour is slightly lighter than my natural brow colour but I’m used to really dark brows so I’m adjusting!

MAC ‘Ruby Woo’ Lipstick
I’ve been wanting this for AGES! I knew this was something I wanted to get with my birthday money and I did. Also, at the time, MAC were giving away a free lipstick when you spent over £40 so I also got ‘Media’ which looks like a really odd brown colour but when I swatched it, it came out as a really lovely deep purple which I can’t wait to wear in Autumn! I wore Ruby Woo for the first time on a night out (you can see a picture of me wearing it in this post) and for me, it’s the perfect matte red lipstick.

MAC Studio Fix foundation in NW10
I’d been looking for a new foundation for ages and thought I’d try a Mac one. A lady in the shop matched up the colour for me which is a pretty good match and I’m enjoying using it but for some reason I think it smells like paint? Anyone else?

Bourjois Healthy Mix foundation
As I said, I was looking for a new foundation and bought this to try as well. I asked on Twitter for any suggestions and was recommended this. I actually love the smell of this one and after trying it the other day, I love it! I thought it was really good coverage and didn’t seem to fade too much by the end of the day.

Kiko Smart Essential Face Palette in 01 and lipstick in 03
Whilst in Kiko, I initially went in to look for a blush after hearing great things. I found one I liked for £12 but then I found this palette on offer for £13 which includes 3 blush shades, 2 bronze and one highlight. I was so happy with my savings! The colour pay off and pigmentation of the blush and bronze is not brilliant but is definitely buildable. However, the highlight is great! The lipstick is quite a light pink but I’m really liking applying a little bit and blending it for a your-lips-but-better look.

Marc Jacobs Daisy Eau So Fresh Perfume
I’m a lover of the Daisy perfume range and as my bottle of Daisy Dream that I got for my birthday last year is running out, I decided to try this one. I chose the smallest bottle as I do have quite a few perfumes and my mum reminded me that I should probably alternate between them all! I think I prefer this one to Daisy Dream and it’s definitely more of a fruity smell!

Clarins Hydra-Essentiel Moisturiser
This was something I’d wanted for a while but could never justify getting it because of the price. I tried a sample in a magazine and loved it so I eventually decided to bite the bullet and get it with birthday money. It s quite expensive (for me, anyway) and I don’t use it everyday as I want it to last but I can’t recommend it enough – it’s brilliant! I usually have relatively dry skin but it seems to have cleared up a bit since using this!

Morphe 35F Fall into Frost Palette
I’d been looking at Morphe palettes for a while and decided on this one. I actually bought this just before my birthday but I class it as something I got for my birthday! I’m so happy with it and it’s so inexpensive for what you get. I haven’t actually used this yet but I’ve swatched them all and the last three colours of the top row are gorgeous!

MAC 217 Brush
I wanted this brush for years and I finally got it! It’s the perfect blending brush and I use it everyday!

So that concludes my birthday haul! I got quite a bit of make-up but it was all stuff I’d been wanting for a while! We also got a few homeware bits as we’re currently decorating my bedroom so look out for these in a homeware haul and a bedroom makeover post which is coming up soon!

I hope you enjoyed this post – I personally love seeing what people got for their birthday!
